Wherefore art thou, beta three?
Wherefore art thou, beta three?
Okay, let’s do some Monday Motivation: tell me about a project you’re tackling this week that’s got you feeling excited, challenged, or even a little scared!
Loved this deep dive on MetricKit by @mattie. Looks like there’s still some work to be done before the library’s ready for primetime, though.
Getting closer and closer to a TestFlight beta of the next version of Per. But now do I bother shipping it for iOS 13, or wait for iOS 14?
It’s a simple app that doesn’t take advantage of any new iOS features, but the launch work is going to go into September anyhow…
“Coding for pleasure” is like “slamming your hand in a car door for manicure.”
Why do smoke alarms always start chirping about their battery needing replacement at 4AM?
Friends, do you have a favourite guide to learning Go?
I will not install Big Sur β1 on my only Mac. I will not install Big Sur β1 on my only Mac. I will not install Big Sur β1 on my only Mac. I will not install Big Sur β1 on my only Mac. I will not install Big Sur β1 on my only Mac.
😬
Swift developers, do you know of any tool for generating documentation that generates Markdown files, AND isn’t beholden to some platform?
Jazzy builds static sites. SwiftDoc can output Markdown, but includes a lot of cruft that’s meant for GitHub Wikis. Any other options?
Why are remote git operations in the VS Code terminal suddenly throwing alerts about “The extension ‘GitHub’ wants to sign in using GitHub”?
(I don’t have a ‘GitHub’ extension installed.)
Speaking of which, any recommendations a Mastodon app for iOS they love?
My preference is either open source apps, or a paid app that supports independent developers.
It’s official, you can now find me on Mastodon). Toot!
I made a thing! 🚀
The WriteFreely Swift package lets your Mac/iOS app interact with the WriteFreely writing platform. I learned a lot and had fun building this, even though there’s still a lot to be done. Excited for you all to build with it!
Not two weeks ago I was telling someone that my iPhone X is running so well that I think I can easily wait another year. 😍
Yesterday I noticed that the case is starting to split at the seams on both sides, near the lock/volume buttons, suggesting a swollen battery. 😡
A little something I added to the bottom of my personal site’s footer — I’m leveraging the Web Performance API to tell you how long between unloading the last page to fully loading the DOM on the new page.
My first TIL entry was to answer my own question, “what’s with Xcode’s cellForRowAt:
boilerplate making it overcomplicated to use subtitle-type cells?”
I learned this trick from @frankacy and I’m using it everywhere in Per’s rewrite. Whatever helps with IDE autocompletion is a DX win, IMHO.
Good ideas done great: @NetNewsWire’s GitHub repository includes a “Technotes” folder that’s chock full of all kinds of great information. That’s SUCH a useful resource, even if you’re not necessarily working on the project.
Interesting side effect of sheltering at home: because more people are ordering in rather than going to stores, the building’s recycling bins are almost always full.
If you’re looking for a site that lets you add spacer gifs to your iPhone’s home screen, this one by @mikker is pretty much perfect: iphonespacergif.glitch.me
We’ve been running an experiment for a couple of months now to see if we could live with streaming services and get rid of cable.
Turns out, we can, so we cancelled our cable service yesterday. So that feels nice.
Testing DNS stuff:
A logged-in session of dev.to fails to load in Safari on macOS with “Service Worker context closed” (works fine incognito or other browsers). Looks like Safari will simply give up if there’s an unhandled Promise rejection?
I like to wait until the last possible second before entering a one-time password, because if you’re not living life on the edge, are you even really alive?
It’s so mild out, and yet the Great Canadian Tradition of flocking to social gatherings in parks and bar terraces in your shorts is on hold.
It’s unnerving, but I’m also happy to see us all taking physical distancing seriously.
