  • Trying out Obsidian. I signed up for a years of sync (there’s a special right now if you sign up before 2024) and I’m slowly migrating notes from various other apps/services.

Key is that it does native Readwise highlight sync (well, with a plugin). Seems like a nicely built app, too.

    (I don’t think it’s working)

  • If you’re a solopreneur or run a little side business, do you do any kind of financial planning/forecasting as the fiscal year comes to an end? As you start planning for a new product/service launch?

    Why or why not?

  • If you’re like me and can’t ever figure out what’s selected in the tv UI at a glance, enable this in the Settings app:

Accessibility > Display > Focus Style > High Contrast

It’ll put a white border around the focused element on the screen.

  • Expecting a whole lot of snow in Montreal the next couple of days. I’m watching it come down as I sit in a coffee shop, enjoying an Americano as I debug some SwiftUI navigation code.

I do feel for everyone that will be dealing with the Monday morning commute, though. 😬

  • I’m looking for a way to run occasional online surveys—ideally the product is from a small indie team, and relatively inexpensive. I don’t need capabilities for thousands of surveys and/or respondents, just good UX, privacy, and accessibility.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

  • My favourite Watch face continues to be Explorer. It’s subtle, doesn’t offend too much uh in low-light situations, and lets me keep an eye on key complications (WaterMinder and Pedometer++).

An Apple Watch showing the Explorer face, with the upper-left complication showing water consumption and upper-right showing steps taken, both as progress bars. The bottom complication shows the day and date.

  • If you’re running a Discourse site: are you self-hosting (e.g. on a VPS), using a Discourse-dedicated hosting service (e.g. Communiteq), or using Discourse’s own service?

  • Pretty happy with how I’ve customized my Action Button shortcut.

  • How do people have plants and cats in the same home? We have a 40” money tree in a planter that we want to bring indoors for the winterer, but for the life of me er of me I don’t know how to protect it from the cat.

    Ideas?

  • You can customize what’s shown in Standby on iOS 17, which is cool, but is there no way to get those settings to stick?

  • I’m closing out the second week of my four-week “Getting Started” training plan. Today, I did my first long run: 4.4km over 35 minutes is the longest I’ve ever jogged and I feel great. 🙂

I see your likes/faves/comments when I post about these runs and it’s encouraging!

Parentheses appended to a method name when they shouldn’t be. Literally two characters wasted half of my day.
